Upskill the whole engineering team in Fusion 360.Aberdeen University had issues with the software they were using to programme their 3-axis CNC machine. They asked the machine manufacturer HAAS what they could do to get around the problems they were having and they recommended Autodesk Fusion 360.The team saw immediate improvements apart from two issues that arose. Within an experienced engineering team that is very proficient the missing link was that they were all using the software in a different way and it became clear they needed consistency. Marshall Survey Associates (MSA) are 3D scan and measurement consultants, where accuracy and creativity are critical for customer satisfaction. MSA services cover measured build surveys of light surveys, area reports, topographic surveys, utility surveys, monitoring and visualisation/3D modelling. The challenge for MSA was to equip their team with the best tools and resources to drive the best outcomes for all stakeholders.
All of Samuel Heath products are available with a range of control options, and a variety of finishes to chose from. Their requirement was a rendered image of every product, in every finish, with every handle option. The critical element of this requirement was the fact they needed the rendered representation of various finishes to be incredibly accurate, which wasn’t an easy task as in many places the finishes are hand applied and naturally brushed.
Advanced Oncotherapy had the following business challenges identified such as cost was an issue as they were developing many of our business processes from scratch. Next was they wanted a platform to enable them to control the business without mounds of paperwork.
In addition to that, their goal was to expand beyond the traditional PLM functionality of managing the product, and include other areas such as quality and non-conformity.
Initially, the team looked at expanding the use of their previous PLM system as it contained some of the functionality required, but it came at an extra cost.
Swift Group is recognised for its innovative, industry-leading designs and is continually striving towards designing both desirable exteriors and functional interiors. They have the tools required to design the exterior and interior of their products, however, to design a space to be functional and aesthetically pleasing, the design team needed to be able to visualise their designs and layouts.
Document control, revision control and change of management is the biggest challenge we have these days. The importance of having documentation that is the correct revision is critical to the business. If someone is working to the wrong or incorrect revision, it can be potentially catastrophic to the business. Hosokawa Micron wanted a solution that would overcome this problem.
McBains needed to develop a strategic training plan – in pursuit of ‘finding the better way’ – and identified the deployment of automated software as the next stage in digitisation. They asked for Symetri’s input in formulating the details of the plan, prior to undertaking the training. It was time to look at how the whole team could be brought up to speed, collectively, in the requisite skills of automation.
Founded in 2014, SiccaDania designs, engineers, installs, commissions, and services a variety of equipment used in the dairy, starch and food industries. SiccaDania plants and processes are based on customised standard solutions, which allows for a unique, yet standardised control philosophy for the overall automation.
SiccaDania had problems with insufficient workflows for engineers collaborating from different business sites. Maintaining multiple CAD platforms together with lot of manually entered data into different systems led to a lot of time spent on non-value-added work.
Logstrup were early adopters of Autodesk Inventor but they also used an engineering document management solution that didn’t integrate with Autodesk as well as it could have done. It meant the system couldn’t run the latest updates and the outdated software was holding them back and slowing them down. They wanted to work with one reseller but the big leap for them was the decision to migrate from their old document management system to Autodesk Vault. There was a reluctance to make the move because they had so much tied up with their old product data management system - somewhere in the region of 800,000 documents!
For the team at FST to grow, they knew that there were inefficiencies in their processes, so they contacted Autodesk for support. This involved training and post-processing creation. FST bought a new CNC Lathe – Doosan Puma 2600 Series which introduced a new machining technique. The team were primarily using Turning techniques but wanted to use Turn-Mill machining techniques.
Autodesk supported them with training using Autodesk FeatureCAM for Milling and provided a post-processor for their new lathe. FST design and engineering department were using Autodesk Inventor for CAD modelling but to become proficient in the use of Turn-Mill they would have to learn the Milling techniques. Autodesk FeatureCAM provides Turn-Mill equipped software to help build a foundation to join Turning and Milling techniques to earn the Turn-Mill knowledge. Understanding the types of Milling tools was new to the team, so they had to connect with a tool supplier to help them understand the best tools to use.
KVS Technologies provides utilities with end-to-end solutions for inspection and digitalization of critical infrastructure. Their mission is to provide utility companies with a smarter, greener, and safer way to monitor the condition of their infrastructure. KVS advanced drones eliminates the need for traditional helicopter inspections, bringing an increased level of safety and efficiency to their customers’ operations, while also reducing carbon emissions.
To create highly advanced drones that could reach the tough target criteria, KVS needed an efficient simulation tool that would allow collaboration between different parts of the organisation in the cloud, in real-time.
