Bridging the gap between CAD and CNC

Vault Drastically Decreased our Miscommunication Errors

Vault Drastically Decreased our Miscommunication Errors

Customer challenge

At Imperial Industries, we've been designing and manufacturing specialized storage solutions for more than 41 years - constantly evolving to meet the changing needs of your industry. That dedication to growing alongside our valued customers has allowed us to advance from a maker of agricultural feed bins into the industry leader in manufacturing industrial dry bulk storage tanks as well as vacuum sanitation tanks, trucks, replacement parts, and accessories. Today, Imperial Industries operates four distinct product lines, serving the industrial bulk storage, commercial waste and agricultural markets, and offering a full line of replacement and custom parts and accessories for your vacuum waste tanks and trucks.

We turned to Autodesk Vault to help with the management of Inventor files. Imperial has been considering the move to 3D CAD software for some time. Now seems to be the right time and Vault is simply a better way to manage all the files associated with Inventor than trying to just use a simple Windows Explorer file system.

Project goals

We are trying to increase collaboration and streamline workflows across all our departments. As stated above, the eventual goal is to move all of our CAD work in the 3D realm. At one point we anticipate that we will have transferred everything that we do today using AutoCAD, over to Inventor. We have had multiple requests from Industrial customers to provide them with 3D models of our silos. We also think that the move to 3D will increase the accuracy and decrease mistakes and interferences that are difficult to catch in traditional 2D drawings. We felt that Autodesk's Vault PDM was a perfect solution.

Solution

Autodesk Solution Provider NexGenCAM has been integral to, and very helpful with our initial implementation of both Vault PDM and Inventor. So far we believe everything has gone very smoothly. We are far from complete in our changeover though, and I anticipate additional assistance being required at multiple points in the future. Given the service so far, I anticipate that these exchanges will go smoothly with NexGenCAM.

Business outcome

In terms of business value, we are expecting Vault PDM to decrease errors caused by miscommunication across business units. This may take time but we look forward to bettering our Data Management processes with Autodesk's Vault.

Conclusion

Overall, the implementation and discovery phase of Vault has been valuable. Eric Miller and NexGenCAM helped walk us through the process so far and we are certain they will follow through with implementing it across the entire company.

Eric has also been helpful and timely in answering questions since the original implementation. We are very happy with the service that NexGenCAM has given us up to this point with our Vault and Inventor products!

Rapidly Increase R&D and Production

In business since 1994, Aimpro Tactical grew up with traditional CAD/CAM processes and machining techniques. In 2018, the team developed a new product, now covered by 2 US Patents, from which they built a prototype and completed small batches on a Prototrac DPM. Using a separate third party vendor to draw/model in Solidworks and then another to CAM out code in Mastercam or other CAM software, the company moved at what now seems like glacial speed. The challenge was to grow the product line from one specific application and dramatically increase the number of product lines and the number of units produced. This continues to grow and the team is expanding their machining and production capabilities each month. During this time, they are maintaining high-end quality and tight tolerances while minimizing scrap parts and set up times. The company's end user customers expect and demand the highest quality and Aimpro Tactical is committed to delivering only that.

Since the beginning, the core activity has been manufacturing for the medical, industrial, and Original Equipment Manufacturing markets. The products include: specialized regulators, pressure reducers, flow control valves, liquid oxygen valves, fill to vent valves, quick disconnect fittings, relief valves, economizers, vent to fill valves for the medical market, customized fluid power connectors, diesel fuel fittings, and their valves for the industrial market.

Bringing Capabilities In House To Streamline Processes

Elliott Guitars is a small boutique guitar shop that has been in business for over 16 years. We cater to musicians who expect more from the quality their guitars than the average player. As builders and musicians ourselves, we are constantly looking for ways to improve our designs and components to build the very best instruments possible. Several years ago, this process led us to the purchase of our CNC machine. In our search for better CNC design software, we were impressed by the products offered by NexGenCAM.
