SUCCESS STORY

Using Autodesk AEC Solutions for Marine Engineering Projects

Customer Challenge

Vedam Design & Technical Consultancy Pvt Ltd is a leading engineering design company that has completed various types of marine and offshore engineering projects with an in-house design team. During Genesis Infoserve's recent interaction with them, we learned that their detailed design teams were facing difficulties in converting point cloud data into an accurate parametric model and wanted to be more efficient in this task.

Project Goals

Vedam top management had two clear goals: 1. Make the parametric 3D model design and documentation process streamlined and efficient 2. Train its teams further on the latest tools included with the Autodesk AEC Collection of products

Solution

Genesis Infoserve provided Vedam Design with relevant information on Recap, Revit and Plant 3D interoperability. We organized a training program to cover Revit Architecture and Revit MEP for the teams working on detail design. From the basic user interface, site design and model viewing options in Revit, we covered Revit work sharing, family customization, and MEPF (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing and Firefighting) systems layout design.

Business Outcome

After adding Revit as the new product in their workflow, Vedam could manage well the process of converting point cloud data in to parametric 3D model. The training program has benefited Vedam in getting properly detailed and accurate parametric models for client presentation and manage design collaboration across Architectural, Mechanical and Electrical disciplines more effectively.

Conclusion

Vedam Design users are now able to effectively use Revit along with Plant 3D and Recap and manage design collaboration for their live projects for ship construction with building information modeling.
