Terberg Wants to be a Full Partner in BIM

Terberg Wants to be a Full Partner in BIM

Customer challenge

From the market demand, Terberg Total Installations (hereinafter called 'Terberg') is increasingly asked to participate in a BIM process. More is expected than just a 3D model from which drawings are distilled. The demand for optimization and integration of BIM within the processes of Terberg comes on the one hand from management and on the other hand from the project leaders who manage their own project team and are responsible for the generation of work. In this way, project leaders are active in an entrepreneurial way and they encounter the demand for a BIM approach more and more often. One can therefore speak of a very concrete reason for implementing BIM.

Project goals

Terberg has set the following objective: Become a full-fledged BIM partner in the marketplace. To get working with BIM to a higher level, Terberg wants to have insight into the current method and what it takes to get to the desired level.

Solution

The following Autodesk solutions were used; Architecture, Engineering & Construction (AEC) Collection and Revit. Arkance Systems performed a BIM Inventory, in which the team maps out the current working practices and business processes of Terberg. Then, the team identifies and coordinates the desired method of working and processes together with Terberg. In the outcome, we focus on so-called core activities (opportunities).

Business outcome

Arkance Systems were able to identify and define a total of 12 different core activities (opportunities). Together with Terberg, we created more BIM awareness in all layers of the organization, a clear mission and vision on BIM was formed, and BIM roles and responsibilities were rolled out in the organization. Quote from Terberg: ''Among our own people, we notice that people are working much more consciously with BIM. There is better cooperation and people are open for the change of method. But also the cooperation with other parties has improved."

Conclusion

Organizations achieve their goals and are successful in change by taking into account three pillars: people, process and technology. Itannex focuses on these three pillars and aligns them in a change process, creating organization-wide support. Particularly because of this approach, Arkance Systems has gained the trust of Terberg to take care of the further roll-out (core activities) of BIM.

BIM to the Construction Site Along With BIM Quality Management

"Making our engineers aware of what they are doing was the main reason for me to implement BIM 360 Build at PENDIK Projects," says Spencer Hellegering, head of the Projects department at the Veenendaal-based installer. Originally founded in 2006, PENDIK is a service company. With around 8,000 to 10,000 service contracts, mainly through housing associations and property managers, PENDIK was particularly strong in responding to complaints and reports. Setting up a Projects Department within an originally service-oriented company was quite a challenge. Hellegering: "The working method of a service company is very different. As a service company, you need different knowledge of installation technology than you do for new construction and renovation projects. The staff have to start thinking differently. We used to go to a leak and fix it. But now we have to make sure it doesn't leak!" PENDIK now employs around 40 people, 20 of whom work in the Projects Department.

Gare Maritime as a Showpiece of Study Techniques with Focus on Sustainability

Boydens Engineering is a construction engineering and design office active in the conceptualisation, design and control of technical building installations. They explicitly and with a great sense of responsibility strive for sustainable and energy-neutral buildings. Kurt Corvers, operational director and partner at Boydens Engineering, explains how his engineering office converts concepts into sustainable designs and how Arkance Systems helps them do so. Their latest showpiece is the office space 'Gare Maritime' on the Brussels site of Tour & Taxis.

Communication on site via BIM 360

As one of the largest construction companies in Flanders, MBG stands out for its sense of innovation. In order to optimise their complex Design and Build projects, MBG is investing heavily in the digitisation of their building sites. With Autodesk BIM 360, they have a powerful tool that makes 'bimming' on the building site more accessible and easier. In 2018, the then project manager Nelis Van Loock was appointed BIM Coordinator to streamline everything and put the BIM 360 platform into practice on the site.
