SUCCESS STORY

Scan to BIM Solution

Customer Challenge

Geodelta Systems Sdn Bhd as a business provides specialized 3D laser scanning, BIM modelling and design focus service which serve the Oil and Gas and Built Environment segment. Geodelta System Sdn Bhd was looking to achieve a smooth workflow process-driven solution for their Scan to BIM service which utilized Leica 3D Terrestrial Laser Scanner and Autodesk BIM Solutions.

Project Goals

Geodelta Systems Sdn Bhd explored Autodesk Recap and Revit collaboration, synchronization and integration with Leica 3D Terrestrial Laser Scanners for the purpose of cloud data extraction and post-processes. Both Leica and Autodesk Revit solutions must be seamless in order to manage data integrity and ensure an accurate BIM model is properly developed with Autodesk Revit for the actual representation of site conditions.

Solution

3DTech worked on a pilot project to showcase seamless collaboration between Autodesk BIM Solutions and extracted point cloud data from the 3D Terrestrial Laser Scanner. 3DTech and Geodelta Systems assembled their pilot project team to develop a sample BIM model for Architecture and Structural elements and MEP components in Autodesk Revit with references to point cloud data extracted from Leica scanners. This also provided to Geodelta a point cloud data processing workflow from scanner to Recap.

Business Outcome

The Scan to BIM pilot project has managed to convince Geodelta Systems Sdn Bhd to adopt the Autodesk AEC Collection in order to utilize Autodesk Recap as a point-cloud data processing tool and Autodesk Revit as a 3D BIM model development and drafting tool. As a result, Geodelta procured 11 subscription units of the Autodesk AEC Collection and have sent ten people for Scan to BIM training with 3DTech.

Conclusion

As a result of proper understanding of the process of integration between Leica and Autodesk solutions, the Scan to BIM service has differentiated Geodelta Systems Sdn Bhd with other laser scanning service providers. Geodelta Systems Sdn Bhd has also managed to expand their service into a total Front-end Engineering Design (FEED) service provider focused not only on laser scanning, but also bringing the value of BIM modelling and clash detection to their customers.
