Project Assistance for Revit As-Built

Project Assistance for Revit As-Built

Customer challenge

Montgomery Engineering Group is a civil site development firm located in Winchester, VA, that specializes in engineering, concrete foundation design, and light structural design. They were working on a project that required them to take DWG as-built and translate them into Revit as-built. They did not have a Revit modeler available for the project and needed to have their Revit models updated quickly, in order to meet the project deadline.

Project goals

The primary goal of this project was to take the DWG and PDF files and translate them back to the Revit models. They needed this done in a timely manner due to project requirements.

Solution

Montgomery Engineering took advantage of the deep CADD consulting bench, to expand its own delivery capabilities to meet an aggressive project deadline. The CADD consultant was given the DWG and PDF files, as well as the previously created Revit model. The consultant communicated with the customer throughout the project for feedback and direction on the updates that needed to be done on the model. The consultant began reviewing the DWG and PDF files and identified the changes in the as-built that needed to be added to the Revit model. The changes were heavily MEP-related, adding hot water lines, hot water insulated piping, and a new CRAC unit. It also included the removal of air conditioning units and associated piping and cuts for those units. The project was completed within 3 days and once the Revit as-built was completed, the consultant sent the final files and PDF to the customer.

Business outcome

Montgomery Engineering was satisfied with the updates to the Revit file and the outcome of the project. By having the CADD team assist with the Revit as-built, they were able to meet their project requirements from their client in a timely manner.

Conclusion

When the Montgomery Engineering team was required by one of their customers to provide Revit as-builts, they did not have an available modeler that could meet that deadline. Using CADD’s consulting team as an extension of their modeling team allowed Montgomery Engineering to deliver its project to the customer on time. The CADD Project Management team provided follow-up once the project was complete to ensure satisfaction and a continued strong partnership with Montgomery Engineering.

A Morton Thomas & Associates (AMT) is a multidisciplinary engineering and design consultancy headquartered in Rockville, MD, with 20 offices throughout the eastern US. AMT holds contracts with multiple states in the Mid-Atlantic region to provide construction engineering inspection and construction management of highway construction projects for each state’s respective Department of Transportation. As part of their contract requirements for their Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) contract, AMT had standardized on Autodesk PlanGrid for project and field management. When their current PlanGrid contract was up for renewal, AMT worked closely with CADD Microsystems and Autodesk to ensure that they procured the correct solution to meet their current project requirements and to ensure they had the right solution for the future, as they anticipate the potential future contract requirement changes with their DOT clients.
