P2S Improves Their Workflow and Collaborates Better, Despite COVID-19

Customer challenge

P2S turns client dreams into reality with inventive, sustainable solutions fueled by the desire to make the future a better place. The elite team of 250+ engineers and technical staff at P2S Inc. have brought forward-thinking, sustainable engineering solutions to California and beyond for over 30 years. Clash Detection and Remote Collaboration The P2S engineering team was experiencing a bottleneck in their workflows. As projects progressed through their lifecycle, they were limited by licensing for Autodesk Navisworks Manage, which directly impacted their efficiency. They only had the bandwidth for one or two people to perform design review across various projects being worked on at any one time. Then came the disruption of COVID-19. Like many teams across the globe, P2S suddenly found themselves in a position where learning to design and collaborate virtually, from anywhere, was mission critical. They needed a way for everyone to get on the same page – and fast.

Project goals

P2S contacted Autodesk Solution Provider KETIV to inquire about remote collaboration and design review. They wanted to create a work environment that removed bottle necking and allowed employees to perform tasks efficiently.

Solution

Employees were set up to self-serve, removing their bottleneck at the clash detection stage. Providing the engineering team with the Autodesk Architecture, Engineering & Construction (AEC) Collection means this important capability is distributed to the team members to self-serve, allowing all BIM staff to perform their own clash detection. They quickly realized that even their less experienced BIM staff could perform these tasks as well. With COVID-19 driving their teams to work remote, P2S found themselves in a good place to complete their projects. They already stood up a base install of BIM Collaborate before the pandemic, which allowed them to start collaborating right away – learning to succeed in this ‘new normal’. They found that projects could be easily coordinated by the BIM Manager or BIM technician using Dynamo functionality within BIM Collaborate and the AEC Collection, allowing them to set up the initial views and reports for the design team to resolve clashes faster.

Business outcome

1) The team can deliver clash resolutions and reports faster than they could before. 2) Designers get a head start on clash resolutions, with the help of BIM Managers and BIM technicians. 3) P2S standardized clash detection for the entire team, removing the bottleneck in their workflow. 4) Less experienced BIM technicians can now self-serve and leverage Dynamo scripts to drive greater efficiency.

Conclusion

The P2S team's remote collaboration experience is better than expected: “We are collaborating closer with each other now, compared to the pre-pandemic, office environment. We quickly found a rhythm using Dynamo functionality in BIM Collaborate and the AEC Collection.”

Antenna Manufacturer Boosts Quality and Speed by Optimizing Workflows

This KETIV customer is a leader in their field, producing high performance antenna systems for a diverse set of commercial aviation, defense, and aerospace applications. With over 30 years’ experience, the Director of Programs has a rich background as an experienced, hands-on engineer. It was time to move from a 2D-based design environment to a 3D one, optimizing their design and production processes. The company wanted to centralize their licensing and create their future designs in a more modern application that could bring updated capabilities to their shop, like upgrading from a 3-axis to a 5-axis CNC. The company’s high-grade antenna components are subject to extreme environments, so they require very intricate and solid part designs. Several injection-molded parts would require multiple back-and-forth iterations to get the design perfected and reduce defects (i.e. meld lines, sink marks, etc.) where parts were not molded and optimized properly.

Global Leader in Life Science Fluidics Keeps to Project Deadlines with Moldflow

IDEX Health & Science specializes in engineered fluidics systems and components. Their Oak Harbor, WA location is where part testing with simulation plays a crucial role in delivering best-in-class products that meet their many customers' optofluidic needs. Their product development department has been partnered with KETIV and using Autodesk Moldflow since 2014 to troubleshoot problems and address manufacturing challenges. One project, in particular - a prep scale degasser - had been designed and was moving to production, but once the part was molded and machined into, there were substantial problems. The machining process uncovered significant voids, which caused leaks during the component's usage. The product release had to be put on hold until these issues were resolved and production could continue.

Kheyti Revolutionizing Small Farmer Business with the Help of Fusion 360

Kheyti is a nonprofit organization headquartered in India whose core product is Greenhouse-in-a-Box, a low-cost greenhouse that costs 90% less than the market, protects crops from environmental risks, and grows 7x food with 50x water efficiency. Kheyti offers farmers financing, inputs, advisory, and market linkage services. This integrated solution delivers up to $1,200 additional climate-resilient incomes/year/farmer and 2.5M liters of water savings/farmer. The designing and engineering for the Greenhouse-in-a-Box were being outsourced to greenhouse design consultants and manufacturers in India, Israel, and America. Kheyti would provide these teams with requirements around temperature control, pest protection, humidity, rain protection, etc. But with outsourcing comes delays and gaps in collaboration, especially when working with a global team. Kheyti needed faster turnaround times to test designs on-site to ensure they were maximizing and evolving their farmer-centric solutions.
