SUCCESS STORY
Large Greenfield Expansion 2
Customer Challenge
Hargrove is a multi-discipline Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) firm that provides comprehensive on-site support to their clients in the energy generation, manufacturing, research and development, infrastructure, and process-heavy sectors. They have completed over 22,000 projects and served over 2,100 facilities since inception. Over the last several years margins on projects have gotten tighter and project timelines have become shorter.
To meet these heightened demands, Hargrove began to realize that they needed to be able to communicate more effectively between engineering disciplines, field employees, subcontractors, and owners. Also, with the constraints imposed by the current Covid-19 pandemic, employees that are being kept out of the office are creating even greater challenges when it comes to sharing data across projects. Included in their desired enhancements is to automate data output during projects whenever possible.
Project Goals
Hargrove’s primary goals were to execute the Large Greenfield Expansion 2 as a more data-centric project while eliminating isolated silos of information and finally speeding up the relaying of information between all project stakeholders. Secondly, they needed to find a way to automate data output to eliminate manual entry of MTO’s, reports, and other time-consuming tasks.
Solution
ECAD, Autodesk, and Hargrove have been engaging on a regular basis since the start of the Large Greenfield Expansion 2 project. This has included the training, onboarding, implementation, and support of Hargove's use of the Autodesk AEC Collection, Autodesk DOCS, Autodesk BIM Collaborate Pro, Autodesk Build, and Autodesk Assemble.
Business Outcome
While the Large Greenfield Expansion 2 development is a long-term ongoing project, Hargrove is already seeing the benefits and measurable results in their efforts toward more data-centric projects and expect for those benefits to increase in the immediate future as they continue to refine their unique workflows related to their increased use of the Autodesk solution. The Large Greenfield Expansion 2 was the first step in vetting the process using Autodesk’s AEC Collections and the Autodesk Construction Cloud. The Autodesk Construction Cloud is proving that it’s possible to communicate and exchange data and information more efficiently between all parties involved.
Conclusion
“Working on a fast paced, schedule driven project, the contractor asked for cut lengths for the largest building on the project before drawings were finished. With Autodesk Assemble, we created a cut list in an easy-to-read format from which the contractor was able to pre-order steel. The time was greatly reduced for creation of Revit based MTOs with higher accuracy & quality. 1 person per discipline was able to efficiently capture quantities for the entire project, including 11 buildings & 14 industrial structures. Designers were able to model until late into the project lifecycle with no need for stopping to extract MTOs. The Estimating team got MTOs in a pre-decided format that is easy to read. When estimates are done & ready for “discipline review,” we can get up-to-date quantities & the latest MTO showing exactly what changed from the MTO date to current date. The result was a very accurate estimate that enabled us to pinpoint the final number."
