GRANSTUDIO | A higher level of innovation in car design

Customer challenge

Granstudio was formed in 2011 in Turin by Lowie Vermeersch and a group of partners experienced in Car design, in the past this team has been able to create and manage some of the most renowned automotive projects in recent history. The main challenge for the new studio was to combine passion and competence with the vision of future mobility, in order to expand its experience to new possibilities in the field of innovative car design. Today this unique combination of vision and expertise allows Granstudio to design future means of mobility (cars, vehicles, services and policies) that are successful because they are embedded in their future context. Granstudio is comprised of a multidisciplinary team of 70 people working on a global range of projects ranging from initial research and strategy to production design. In parallel, independent research projects are also being developed, in collaboration with the well-known Dutch laboratory of ideas, Reframing Studio.

Project goals

Thinking about cars and thinking about them as a function of how the mobility of the future will be and the impact it will have on people's lives and those who want to drive them. The study combines a consistent and solid knowledge of traditional processes in the automotive sector with a holistic vision of mobility. This is the vision of Granstudio that entrusts the realization of projects to a team of expert designers and planners who collaborate with each other with maximum flexibility. This working method is possible thanks to the use of virtual models that perfectly represent what the final product will be and on which to operate simultaneously. Thanks to the Autodesk solutions used by Granstudio, the development team has the opportunity to test lines, materials, interferences and final yield in the field, accelerating time to market and increasing the quality of the result.

Solution

The following Autodesk solutions have been implemented: 1. Autodesk Alias for the development of the style of projects, from the idea to the final result. 2. Autodesk Maya for polygonal and subdivision models, and as an asset preparer for rendering. Autodesk software is part of the daily routine of Granstudio. Autodesk Alias has also continued for years to be the perfect hub for converting the vast majority of CAD formats currently in use on the planet, and therefore the link between many different software, avoiding annoying monopolies or impositions on the use of the tool. To date, it is clear that Autodesk Alias is the only software on the market capable of guaranteeing performance in line with the outputs and timing required by the automotive world.

Business outcome

Autodesk Alias Surface has always been the ally of car design par excellence, customers request "Alias" files when the expectation is to have a digital model of the works carried out by Granstudio.

Conclusion

The use and versatility of Autodesk Alias Surface for Granstudio is currently unrivaled, and it is a necessity for any company intending to work on such numerous project pipelines with a professional quality level. This software is the only all-round tool capable of covering the studio's processes at every stage, and allows Granstudio to impeccably manage the style of their products without compromise, to easily support the courageous choices they propose to their customers. customers, up to the complex stages of industrialization and surface quality control. The continuous collaboration between Granstudio, NKE and Autodesk, finally, allows the customer to continue to successfully achieve his goals and to increase his level of innovation.
