Canoo is a Los Angeles based company that has developed breakthrough electric vehicles from the ground up, reinventing the automotive landscape with bold innovations in design, technology, and non-traditional ownership models. As they quickly grew, they needed a design solution to take their projects from the concept stage all the way to production in the most efficient way possible. Working closely with Motion Media, Canoo sought to find an optimal solution to make that happen.
Project Goals
Canoo had three goals in mind:
1. Identify solutions that would allow their teams to collaborate freely from concept to production while being able to iterate quickly.
2. Ensure the seamless integration of Virtual Reality (VR) into their design pipeline so they could make informed design decisions at the earliest stages.
3. Complete vehicle designs faster, more economically, and with higher quality than their competition.
Solution
After initial talks with Canoo, Motion Media determined that Autodesk Alias Surface would closely align with Canoo's business needs. A combination of Alias Surface, Alias Design and Maya were implemented, giving Canoo a powerful design suite that could take them from concept to production with ease. This allowed designers to visualize concepts in VR, as well as create CNC milled clay models to perfect designs.
Business Outcome
Canoo's design and engineering process were significantly streamlined through the use of Alias Surface & Design, while Maya allowed designers and the marketing team to create stunning animations to visualize their designs.
