With a recent project with BIM requirement at construction stage, we are caught and were new to Building Information Modelling concept. Project principals requires the use of BIM tools for coordination purposes. It was a situation we have not anticipated before. Over the years, our design team are only using Autodesk AutoCAD for design and documentation. Autodesk 3DS Max for video walk-through with our customers. In BIM, different technology tools are required, and Progressive introduced us about Autodesk BIM and Autodesk Revit functionality. We did try-out Autodesk Revit and source the market for alternative solution. And we did finalize our decision with Autodesk Revit and the ease how Autodesk Revit can work with. The post- trainings and support we seek have given our team the confidence to work with Revit to develop our designs for the project.

Project goals

We underestimate that Autodesk Revit only create 3D BIM models, Progressive shared with us discovering Autodesk BIM and using technology tools to design effectively and efficiently. Autodesk Revit has simplified our conventional 2D design and documentation processes. Autodesk Revit functionality have provided to us quality presentation and documentation output.

Solution

With the introduction of Autodesk Revit into our organization three months ago, has brought us some doubt at first. Having to use Autodesk Revit in our first project that requires BIM methodology has open new way of working. The realization we see that BIM has a new way of working for AEC professionals. There are many challenges we encounter from learning new Revit feature to develop our architectural model to learning how to perform virtual model coordination for clashes with real live project situation. The training has help us to jump start our team of designers to work in 3-Dimension representing actual design intent. We can see our design forming realistically. With Autodesk Navisworks Manage, coordination has never been easier. Navisworks allow us to anticipate design and construction issue early. We see some communication improvement among the stakeholders and project team in all our meetings. Communication is much easier and more effective when addressing conflict and clashes.

With the ever-changing market and demands, seeing our business sustaining success relies on making smart decisions that will benefit our firm well into in the future. Knowing the fact that the Autodesk Architecture, Engineering & Construction industry is changing and investing in BIM will give our organization the competitive edge it needs to sustain and winning more projects. Our mission is to achieve into the top five architectural firm in the industry. Making the decision to adopt Autodesk BIM and using the technology tools is only beginning and we see a brighter potential for us with better services in the future. We will never look back with Autodesk AutoCAD anymore.

Even though BIM provides the tools required to develop the model for a project, Autodesk BIM has also open up new business opportunities for us. We can now participate in project that requires BIM and we will use BIM to start designing. We have much to learn and refine the Autodesk BIM methodology into our organization wide adoption.
