SUCCESS STORY

Autodesk Fusion 360 Velocity Training and Support For EFD Induction

Customer Challenge

EFD Induction was looking for a solution to replace its historic CAM system with a cloud-based application that would consolidate all aspects of its CAM and machining tools and processes. They also had an existing post-processor that needed to be updated and refined to eliminate associated errors introduced in what had been a long-standing manual process. Finally, they desired to add a parametric 3D modeling capability as well as institute new and more efficient workflows for all CAD to CAM to Shopfloor processes to lessen potential errors in an inconsistent manual creation and editing process.

Project Goals

The summation of EFD Induction corporate business goals was as follows:

  • Unification of their manufacturing system supporting their shopfloor CNC machines.
  • Integrated Autodesk Fusion 360 CAD/CAM tools.
  • Cloud-based Data and Document Management using Autodesk Fusion Team.
  • Centralized storage of post-processing and tooling programs in the cloud through Fusion 360.
  • All EFD Induction stakeholders will have access to a cloud-based and centralized advanced machining “toolbox.”

Solution

EFD Induction engaged with Autodesk Solution Provider, Team D3, to acquire both Autodesk Fusion 360 as their fully integrated CAD/CAM solution while choosing Autodesk Fusion Team to handle their data and document management requirements. They then began a sequential and comprehensive training program with Team D3 for the use of Autodesk cloud-based applications. Included in the solution was an annually renewable training program called Autodesk Fusion Velocity along with related technical support.

Business Outcome

EFD Induction followed the prescribed and chosen path including the implementation of Autodesk Fusion 360 and Fusion Team. During the training, there are some issues discovered with an existing post-processor that were addressed by a collaborative Team D3 effort that included a trainer, a support team member, and an implementation specialist.

Conclusion

While the initial stage of this comprehensive CAD/CAM solution began some 4 years ago, EFD Induction continues to broaden its use of the Autodesk Fusion 360 cloud-based machining application and most recently has continued to add new users who are now taking current training classes on “Generative Design” as it applies to their use of Autodesk Fusion 360. The CAD-Live Velocity training was used to administer the training virtually, regardless of where their users are located, be it at the physical plant or at home, if necessary. To date, 7 total EFD Induction users have collectively consumed 43 training classes covering the essentials of Autodesk Fusion 360 design, advanced functionality, and manufacturing.
