Autodesk BIM for Modular Construction
Customer Challenge
Patience Modular Pte Ltd is a turnkey, design and build off site manufacturer with regional and global reach. They specialise in permanent, mid to high rise structures for the hotel, student accommodation, residential and custom project sectors.
Patience Modular has been using Autodesk Revit, Autodesk Docs, and Autodesk Take-Off since 2022 to manage certain challenges in project management, particularly in the area of project collaboration. Since some of their team members are from different countries, it is difficult for them to communicate and gain a common understanding. They cannot expect a quick answer to a problem due to the difference in time zones. So, in order to avoid waiting for emails or calls, Patience Modular considers that Autodesk Docs has the solution to its current problems, and, they want to figure out how to use it in Malaysia and in compliance with local standards. Patience Modular is also considering to make their quantity takes off more efficient from the Autodesk Revit model which they had created.
Project Goals
One of the main areas Patience Modular is now focusing on is reducing waste and minimizing costs. Therefore, they take care to thoroughly examine everything throughout the design stage to find possibilities to minimize costs and wastage.
Solution
The quantity take-off needs to be done by Patience Modular using the 3D Model that they have developed in Autodesk Revit. To avoid mistakes and to ensure that no elements in the 2D environment are missed, Patience Modular prefers not to execute quantity take-off from 2D drawings. Additionally, this is done to acquire and compare as much quantity data from the Revit Model as possible, as well as to avoid errors in manual calculation. Autodesk Revit, according to Patience Modular, is a software that is simple to use and that even new users can easily understand. All changes in communication design, quantity issues, and communication with stakeholders around different continents are conducted in Autodesk Docs.
Business Outcome
3DTech approach toward the BIM and Quantity Take-Off adoption strategy has assisted Patience Modular in further defining its own Autodesk Revit, Autodesk Docs, and Autodesk Take-Off process flow, complying with Patience Modular project stages. The implementation of CDE helped Patience Modular to reduce the waiting time to get feedback from the rest of their team members to 1 week only, which usually the feedback took around 2 to 3 weeks without Common Data Environment.
Patience Modular engages with 3DTech to train and provide handholding support to Patience Modular in order to fasten the adoption and familiarization timeframe for their internal team member. This helped Patience Modular to maximize and efficiently use the tools that they required within 3 months after the initial purchase date.
Conclusion
Patience Modular was able to maximize the benefits of its investment in Autodesk AEC Collection, Autodesk Docs, and Autodesk Take-Off by executing a good adoption strategy that focused on people, processes, and technology.
