And in this next part to Enable Team on BIM Standards for Building Projects using Revit, we're going to take a look at
00:06
the delivery team briefed on Post Contract BEP, and adequate training provided to ensure effective delivery of your project.
00:15
Let's start by talking about what the delivery team is.
00:18
The mobilization plan provides the delivery team with an opportunity to ensure they have the people,
00:24
process, and technology in place to deliver the information.
00:28
In doing this, the perspective lead appointed party shall consider the approach, timescales and responsibilities for each of these:
00:37
Testing and documenting the proposed information production methods and procedures, testing the information exchange between task teams,
00:48
testing the information delivery to the appointing party, configuring and testing the project's common data environment,
01:02
configuring testing the delivery team's distributed CDE and its connectivity to the project CDE if that applies.
01:10
Procuring, implementing, configuring, and testing additional software, hardware and IT infrastructure as needed based on the project size and scope.
01:20
This could be an ongoing task.
01:25
Developing additional shared resources to be used by the delivery team.
01:30
I would document, document, and document again.
01:33
Anytime you can document something and share those resources, that's going to just keep that team running smoothly.
01:39
People can check back to those documents if they have questions.
01:42
Also deliver and develop education.
01:46
So if you have some training that may be needed, maybe you do some lunch and learns, maybe you document best practices step by step.
01:53
This is where you can continuously, throughout the life of the project, deliver certain educational use and value to those team members,
02:01
whether internal or external, and provide training.
02:06
So not only can you deliver documentation and further information, but you can also provide training.
02:12
That could be in a 30-minute video, that could be in the tips and tricks session,
02:16
that could be in a full blown two- or three-day session on whatever that discipline needs as far as training goes,
02:23
and that could differ based on new team members, seasoned veterans and so forth throughout the life of that project.
02:30
And additional delivery team members, if you are coming down to the end of a big project, you may need some additional help,
02:37
maybe draft in some internal or go looking external for some additional team members.
02:41
It's always something you should keep in mind.
02:46
And then support those individuals and organizations that joined the delivery team during the appointment.
02:51
Sometimes they need a little bit of ramp up time and you can't just throw them into the mix, make sure you're there to support them.
02:57
So this is what the delivery team consists of and those are some of the topics that I would go over and make sure they are in place within the BEP
03:05
or within whatever mobilization plan you have set.
03:08
So the post contract BEP, the post contract BIM Execution Plan sets out how the information required in the employee information requirements,
03:17
part of the BEP, is provided and it's typically broken out into four steps.
03:22
You've got management, planning and documentation, standard method and procedure, and IT solutions.
03:28
Those four steps will help you make sure that you have a fully executed post contract BEP and deliverables are done per that BEP.
03:38
Some other things to keep in mind - Volume Strategy.
03:41
So that's defined as manageable spatial subdivision of a project.
03:44
Actually the project team.
03:46
Orientation and Origin.
03:49
Now this differs depending on the project, whether it's strictly a civil, whether it's multi-discipline.
03:55
Maybe you've got a rail line with some buildings into it, and sometimes the origin and the orientation coming from an architect or MEP
04:05
or something doesn't quite line up with your civil stuff.
04:09
Making sure that that is identified early on is key.
04:13
File naming conventions, file/drawing maintenance.
04:17
One thing I see most often is really dirty drawings, major corruption in there.
04:21
They wonder why uploaded BIM 360 is slow or they wonder why crashes happen often, and just open time and save time is dreadful.
04:31
You wonder why.
04:32
There's a drawing maintenance and file document that I delivered to all clients, making sure maybe that's part of the BEP
04:39
and definitely part of the training that would be a good idea.
04:43
Layer naming convention and where it's to be used, and so forth.
04:47
So there's a lot of standards and methods and procedures on that post contract BIM Execution Plan you need to keep in mind.
04:58
And the biggest thing and this goes really to the beginning of the project, but we'll mention it here at the delivery strategy is
05:04
the project team must agree upon the specific version of software to be used as part of the BEP.
05:10
So you may start a Revit project in 2022, but it's being delivered in the current version and that project lasted three years.
05:18
You want to make sure that that project is upgraded.
05:20
Or if that project specifies, that BEP specifies that it must be in Civil 3D 2023 or Revit 2023 or whatever it is,
05:30
you want to make sure that you stay in that version and it's delivered in that version.
05:37
Same with hardware.
05:38
How are you delivering it? How are you storing it? How are you backing it up?
05:41
Things need to be identified there.
05:44
IT infrastructure goes along with the software and the hardware.
05:48
Making sure is this a cloud project, is this a local project? You know, how are we doing that?
05:53
That whole project team must take a look at this and agree upon that, earlier the better.
06:02
And then when implementing BIM on a project, attention should be paid to that delivery method.
06:08
Is it being delivered monthly? Is it delivered quarterly? Are you hitting 30%, 60%, 90%, 100%?
06:16
Are those triggering the deliverables?
06:18
All of that stuff needs to be identified early on.
06:21
It needs to be reviewed in your weekly meetings, if not more often.
06:26
And the project completion, and in accordance with that contract and that BEP,
06:31
the final project documentation should be submitted along with all the reports, and again, deliverable file formats outlined in that BEP.
