Create a model for a typical concrete building, and analyze and test designs on the model.
Type:
Tutorial
Length:
15 min.
Define a layered structural grid system, build stories, and use a layout for further modeling of main structural components.
After you begin a project for a multistory building, define the stories of the building.
To define the basic geometry of a building, you first need to define the structural axes. The axes represent the primary layout of the building.
After you define stories and the structural axes, define the dimension of structural components.
Model the main structural components that define the lowest level of the building: concrete walls and slabs.
Define the perimeter of the building after you set stories and planar thicknesses.
Use the selection window to apply supports to a drawing.
Add walls to the lower level of a structure.
Set a floor slab in a structure after you define the base level of the building.
Create an opening in a previously defined slab and use the Openings dialog to define its properties.
Create a staircase with walls and stair panels.
Define the landings and flights of a stairwell. Use the previously created structural axes as references you can snap to.
Add an elevator shaft and surrounding walls to a story selected with the object inspector.
Create columns and floor slabs for a story and repeat the actions for other stories.
Model reinforced concrete columns around an elevator shaft using the location of the structural axes.
Apply Gamma angles and offsets to columns to properly orient and locate them.
Define a floor slab for the second level.
Replicate modeled stories across the entire building.
After modeling one story, replicate and copy it across the rest of the building.
Define core walls on the above-ground floors.
