Reuse 2D Data in 3D for Manufacturing
Most designs these days are done in 3D, but a huge amount of data remains in the 2D state and it does not find the use it deserves. In this course, you will learn why and how to use your 2D data in 3D for downstream processes such as analysis, manufacturing and even selling your product. More specifically, we will talk about the re-use of AutoCAD and AutoCAD Mechanical drawings in Autodesk Inventor.
Having completed this course, you will be able to:
- Understand the advantages of 3D modeling and have knowledge of the various design tools that will become available when working in 3D.
- Identify suitable 2D data that can be used to generate 3D models within Inventor following this workflow. Introduction to AnyCAD.
- Apply workflows that bring existing 2D data into model sketches which can then be used in the creation of Inventor part files.
- Understand the advantages/disadvantages of model associativity between Inventor part files and reference 2D data.
- Understand best practices for reproducing assemblies, machine drawings, and assembly detail drawings in Inventor.
- Apply best practices for revision management of historic 2D data and newly created Inventor files.
Course modules
This is the first module in our series on 2D to 3D transition and data reuse. Most designs are done in 3D, but a lot of data remains in the 2D state and it does not find use it deserves. In this module, you will learn why and how to reuse your 2D data in 3D.
This module will help you identify suitable 2D data that can be used to generate 3D models within Inventor. It also provides an introduction to the 3 workflows you can use in a 2D to 3D scenario.
This module will demonstrate 3 workflows you can use to develop 3D models in Inventor based on existing 2D data.
Having developed an Inventor 3D model based on existing 2D design data, this module will demonstrate workflows for combining 3D part files into an assembly. This module will also demonstrate how machine and assembly detail drawings can be reproduced in Inventor and linked back to AutoCAD.
Having the knowledge of how to create Inventor part and assembly files, this module will introduce you to the topic of data and revision management when working with Inventor. The module will cover key topics and considerations you should be aware of to best manage your design data.
