Load settings

Create load and load combinations - Exercise

  1. Click File > Open and navigate to the Structural Analysis-Medical Center.rte template file.
  2. On the structures tab of the ribbon, click on the diagonal arrow on the structures tab to bring up the structural settings. Click on the Load Cases tab.

  3. We are going to create LL2. Click on LL1, then duplicate and rename to LL2. Because we duplicated LL1, the Nature and Category will be correct. If you clicked New or duplicated the wrong load case by mistake, change the Nature to Live and the Category to Live Loads.

  4. Click on the Load Combination Tab. Let's now add a new combination.

  5. Click the Add button, name the load combination Imposed, set Type to Envelope, and set State to Ultimate.

  6. Let's now create a formula for our combination. In the Edit selected Formula section, press Add three times. Set the following values: 1) Factor 1.2 Case DL1, 2) Factor 1.4 Case LL1, 3) Factor 1.4 Case LL2.

  7. Notice the formula added to Load Combination.

  8. Let's finish by adding a usage. In the Load Combination Usage section, click Add and change the name to Gravity. We can add all the usage types we want here ready for use later, but in this example, we will just use one. Tick the Set box to add the usage to our combination.

  9. Our new load and load combination are now set up. Click File > Save to save the changes to the template.
