WOMAN: Adding Space Separators and Modifying Room Bounding
00:04
Elements in Revit.
00:07
In this video, we're going to fix some issues with the 3D
00:10
volume of a space by adding space separators where the room
00:14
may not be correctly specified.
00:16
Then we'll modify the room bounding status of some ceiling
00:19
elements in the linked architectural model
00:22
and see how that impacts the spaces.
00:26
I'm working in the small Medical Center building
00:28
and I have the space section zoomed in on the reception
00:31
area and the upper lobby.
00:35
There are two issues that we need to deal with now.
00:37
First, the space is extending outside the building.
00:41
This is most likely because of the angled windows
00:44
you can see here.
00:46
There could be a break in the room bounding elements
00:49
around this window.
00:54
To fix this, I'm going to open the O2 second floor space plan
01:00
and I'm going to zoom in on the window.
01:04
And you can see here when I select the space
01:07
that it actually is reaching into the window.
01:10
So there's some problem with the room bounding status there.
01:15
To fix this, I'm going to go into the Analyze tab, Spaces
01:20
and Zones panel, and click Space Separator.
01:24
This lets me draw a line for the space.
01:27
I'm going to draw that line and you can see
01:31
it cleans up the information.
01:34
I had to Escape to finish the command.
01:38
I'm going to scroll down a little bit.
01:40
I'm going to run the same command.
01:43
I want to draw my space separator across the window.
01:46
It doesn't really matter how long it
01:48
is just so it's covering it up.
01:50
I'm going to go to my space section
01:54
and you can see that that space has been cleaned up there now.
01:58
One more thing needs to be done to the space.
02:01
In the architectural link there are
02:03
some ceilings that keep the space
02:05
from filling out the area.
02:08
And it's important to calculate this area between the ceilings
02:11
and the roof.
02:12
Because the ceilings are sloped there
02:14
could be some added complications
02:16
to applying a space if we try to do use a plenum.
02:19
But there is an easy answer if the architect will cooperate.
02:24
You can ask the architect to change these elements so
02:27
that they are non-room bounding.
02:29
Let's take a look at how that would be done.
02:32
I'm opening up a copy of the architectural link.
02:37
I'm using a copy for demonstration purposes.
02:42
And I'm in my longitudinal section
02:45
and that's a good view for what I need to work on.
02:48
So I'm coming over to my longitudinal section
02:51
and I find those ceilings.
02:54
So here's the ceiling and you can see in Properties
02:57
that it's set to Room Bounding.
02:60
I'm going to click that Off and then
03:02
I'm going to do the same thing for the other ceiling.
03:07
Again, it's Room Bounding.
03:08
I'm going to turn that Off.
03:12
Then I'm going to Save and Close this file.
03:15
Right now this link is not part of my project.
03:19
So I need to select the existing link and then in the ribbon I
03:26
click Manage Links.
03:28
Go in to Manage Links and change from Small Medical Center A
03:33
and reload it from the one I just changed which was A2.
03:39
I'm going to click Open and I'm going to click OK.
03:44
And you can see that my space now fills this area.
03:49
So now my next step is to go ahead and add the plenum
03:53
spaces.
